By far one of my favorites to grow each year. The color on this plant is something to behold. It’s incredibly easy to grow and ever so useful in the homestead garden.
Amaranth is a work horse at our homestead. The leaves make a tasty and nutritious salad addition. It really is a perfect warm weather substitute for spinach. A heavy producer that will reseed easily and inspire your creativity. From yarn to Easter eggs to cosmetics and clothing dye. And of course, my personal favorite... lip stain.
You can pop the amaranth kernels like popcorn. Make into cereal or make a high protein, gluten-free grain flour.
Makes a stunning color addition to cut flower bouquets
Planting amaranth in a front yard garden is becoming ever more popular. Grow some excellent in warm weather and somewhat tolerant of drought conditions.
I hope this ancient grain will inspire you in new ways and that you’ll share your inspiration with us!
