Commonly known as eastern red cedar, but not a true cedar. This sacred Native American Juniper is bursting with medicinal properties. It is thought to contain an anticancer agent, podophyllocotoxin. Tea from her fruit has been used by our ancestors not only as a spice for meats and flours but also for treatment of Pain, inflammation, measles, colds, worms, rheumatism, urinary tract infection, eczema, psoriasis, athletes foot, bronchitis, coughs, to detoxify and break fever through induction of perspiration. Leaf smoke or steam inhaled for colds, bronchitis, rheumatism. Topically it can be used to heal wounds and ease sore and stiff muscles.
A powerful antiseptic, it can be used for wart removal and chewing berries can remedy mouth sores.
