Peas - Little Marvel

If you have kids, peas are possibly the greatest thing you’ll ever grow in your garden. Fresh peas are perhaps the most wonderful part of gardening period. What could be better than a fresh pea? I’ve raised 4 kids on fresh garden peas. Not a single one of them will eat a store pea. I don’t blame them. Once you’ve had a fresh pea, much like fresh tomatoes. There is no going back. 
Inspired by Thomas Jefferson’s annual early pea growing competition. I’ve search high and low for the earliest varieties. This one has won our annual Jefferson contest 2 years running. 
The Little Marvel pea plant is compact and does not require staking. The peas have a fine sweet flavor when picked young. Pods have 5-6 peas per pod. The Little Marvel is a great pea plant for home gardens.

Though no one really knows when peas were first cultivated, historians can be certain that people grew them for food by the Bronze Age. Legend has it that fresh peas first became popular when a French gardener introduced them to the court of Louis XIV. Because they could be dried and stored for long periods of time, people in colonial times also valued this vegetable. Horticulturalists and gardeners alike have continued cultivating peas of all varieties and sizes. Little Marvel peas were introduced in 1908, and won the distinguished AAS award in 1934.
